Can you be too prepared for parenting??

With so many baby books out there, you have to wonder can you really read all you need to know or is it better to just wing it? I think there is a middle of the road place on this. I was one of those mom's to be with 2 different books. What to Expect when Expecting and A Mindful Mom to be, and of course there are the online apps as well like Baby Center and the Wonder Weeks. Granted some of the books I skimmed through, but I will admit I did read a lot. Probably more so since not around any family or friends with babies, I knew that I had to really educate myself on the basics to be somewhat prepared, and I'm happy I did. I also did call my sister-n-law a lot for guidance, since she had 3 kids When first around some other new moms, I was very happy to have some basics down, like signs to know if your baby is hungry. Every baby is different, but just knowing these before the baby is in a full on cry is really helpful for your own sanity.

One book I wish I had know about is Save our Sleep, a sleeping book. Every baby is different when comes to sleep, but since we struggled a lot from 6-18 months I wish I had been prepared for ideas to help with sleep. I will say not every book you read matches and sometimes it’s finding what best works for you and your little one. Bit of trial by error on some things.

And don’t forget, there are books for dads out there too. I had my husband read from Dude to dad. Was a small way for him to get involved as well in preparing.

I was very happy to also have a Doula to help with getting prepared as well. Of course every Doula is different, but for me giving birth in a foreign country where English isn’t the first language was really helpful for my husband and I. My Doula helped with exercises to prepare for a natural birth, which when the time came we had to have a planned C-section and she was still so helpful on the day. Being in Switzerland my parents weren’t able to be here to help my Doula was able to stay with me after the birth while my husband was with my daughter getting checked.

Everyone is different and every birth is different, so I hope this blog can be of help once again.
